I declare my support-election 2012

I know, this is a risky move to make, but I cannot keep from doing so. All I ask of you is to hear me out and then tell me where you stand on election 2012.

I believe in God and I believe in America. I believe America is the greatest nation in the world and arguably is the greatest nation the world has ever known. And I believe the greatness of America is founded in her belief in God. The more America has exalted God the more God has exalted America. And the more America has ignored and thumbed its nose at God the more God has withdrawn His blessings from this great nation.

I am also a conservative. You don’t have to talk to me long to see where my values lie. I believe in hard work, freedom, independence and interdependence, biblical values, strong morals, and a willingness to sacrifice for the greater cause. None of my beliefs and values have to do with making more money or acquiring more “stuff.” They are convictions and principles that reach infinitely deeper than materialistic ambitions. I believe they are foundational building blocks of greatness.

Because I hold these beliefs dear, I am ready to declare my support in the presidential election of 2012. I enthusiastically throw my support to the Romney/Ryan ticket. Yes, I am one of those red blooded Americans that votes in elections. I can’t remember the last time I missed voting for the President of the United Stated or if I ever have missed an election. And I have traditionally voted the conservative ticket. But never have I come out so strongly in support of a candidate or ticket. The reason why I am doing so at this time is that I believe, like never before, that the pillars of greatness that have made America the pride of the world are in danger of being dismantled and destroyed right before our eyes, in rapid action.

Now, I need to be very clear about one thing. It might upset a few, but I will say it anyhow. Mitt Romney is a Mormon in his beliefs. I am not a Mormon. Without going into details, I would be one of those who would classify Mormonism as a cult. I believe the Mormon religion denies some of the major tenants of Christianity, like the God ship of Jesus. But that’s not the subject of this post. And as it has been said, I am not voting for a pastor-in-chief to direct the church, I am voting for a commander-in-chief to direct the country.

Let me get specific. Here are three reasons why I support the Romney/Ryan ticket and why I feel that it is time for a change in the leadership of our country.

  1. Mitt Romney has experience in taking the unprofitable to the profitable. He has provided courageous leadership in doing so with the International Olympic Committee, the State of Massachusetts and with several companies owned by Bane Capital. This is not a time to debate the processes of Bane. It is a time to say, though, that Romney knows how to get it done when it comes to making the cuts and changing direction for the good of the organization or institution. Believe me, that is exactly what we need in Washington. Personally, I believe that is one of the major reasons why so many are so opposed to his candidacy. The fat sees the knife coming.
  2. Mitt Romney is willing to take on the tough issues. Could that be any clearer than with the selection of his running mate, Paul Ryan? Paul Ryan is a very intelligent man who has a remarkable command of the needs and numbers and is willing to put forth solutions to looming crisis and catastrophes, even when they will not set well with many people. This country has challenges that must be met and decisions that must be made and I believe the ticket of Romney/Ryan says we are willing to take them on, regardless of their popularity or unpopularity.
  3. But here’s the biggie for me. Romney/Ryan are the candidates that will uphold the moral values and principles that are vital to the future recovery and health of our great country. We will not see the further dismantling of marriage and family under Romney/Ryan. We will not see the support and lobbying of abortion rights under Romney/Ryan. We will not see a system of rewarding those who refuse to work under Romney/Ryan. We will not see the blatant violating and usurping of the laws of the land under Romney/Ryan.

Enough said for Romney/Ryan. Now, here are three reasons why I believe it is time for a change at the top.

  1. Let me begin where I just left off. We have had enough of the dismantling of the American family. Here are a few ways the family is under attack in America as listed by my good friend Robert Partington, Director of Peace in the Home Ministry. ( http://peaceinthehome.org/) “The family is under attack when health care reform is a guise for universal access to taxpayer-funded abortion. The family is under attack when two same gender individuals are permitted to adopt innocent children, subsequently modeling brokenness to yet another generation. The family is under attack when governments invest more resources into organizations with nice names who promote promiscuity and abortion than they do into self-control and adoption. The family is under attack when government schools are used to advance social engineering agendas, influencing the hearts and minds of our children, without any heed to parental values. The family is under attack when fully one-quarter of the next generation is murdered in the womb. The family is under attack when the voting public doesn’t see past an engaging smile to the anti-family agenda lurking beneath.”
  2. We have a President who is aggressively selling to and forcing on America a flawed and destructive economic philosophy. His answer to everything is more programs, more spending, more giveaways and more government. Rather than encouraging hard work and self reliance there is an endless agenda to get less and less people working and more and more people depending on government for the needs in their life. Instead of a philosophy of self-worth, achievement, values and hard earned success there is a determined effort to promote all the opposite values and then punish and penalize those who live by them. Enough is enough.
  3. We have an administration that will say and do ANYTHING to get reelected and hold onto power. Lies, distortions, vote buying, bypassing laws, threats, intimidation, arrogance and cover-ups are business as usual. I know, these things have been part of politics since the beginning of politics. But I cannot remember in my lifetime, and that’s quite a long time, the kind of blatant use of such practices as we see them today.

So for these reasons and others, I have decided to declare my support for the Romney/Ryan ticket. I have never done this before in such a public and bold manner. I realize that someone in my position could pay a price for doing so, but, I cannot sit by and silently watch what I believe in be systematically destroyed and dismantled. I cannot help but speak up and support the candidate that I believe is immensely more qualifies to bring the long overdue turnaround to the greatest country in the world.

How about you?

Help for someone you know and care about

Sex is a sensitive subject. It is arguably the biggest concern, crisis and curse of our culture. It is everywhere.

Even so, it is a subject few people want to discuss or confront in a healthy and positive way. We either want to hide our heads in the sand or we want someone else to deal with it for us. So let me offer my services.

For the last four weeks at New Venture Christian Church we have been addressing the subject of sex. We have been examining Satan’s Sex Ed plan that he is teaching to our culture. We have then placed his teaching up against the truth of God’s Word and what we have discovered is nothing short of amazing.

If you were not able to hear the messages in this series or if you caught just part of them I would like to encourage you to give a little time to listening through all four of the messages.

But it is bigger than just you. You know people personally or casually who need to hear either all the messages in the series or one that addresses their specific circumstance. You may be the only person in their life that will direct them to the source that can give then real insight, direction and hope. You may be their best or only hope. I would invite you to take the courageous step and link them, in the best way you see fit, to this truth that they so desperately need.

Here are the links to the four individual messages and then a link to the online site that offers all four messages from one source.

I will be praying for you as you listen yourself and as you direct other to as well.

Kingdom Builders—Whose?

Let’s talk about kingdom building.

Let’s begin by identifying two kingdoms. One is God’s. God’s kingdom is wherever the reign of God is. God is sovereign. He is King. He is the absolute Ruler. His kingdom is where he is invited and allowed to rule and reign supreme. That kingdom begins in the heart of individuals who surrender absolute authority to Him. It exists in lives that are sold out to His Lordship. Jesus said to someone asking about the whereabouts of the kingdom, “The kingdom of God is within you.” Matthew 17:21. From there it extends to include the church and the rule of God in the world.

The second kingdom is our own personal kingdom. It is that realm where we want to have control. It is that which people build for their own enjoyment. It is where the selfish desires of the heart are lord. It is where self, despite claims to the contrary, is the driving force. It built around pleasure, possessions, prestige, popularity, and even power.

Now, if I were to ask the average person which kingdom they would prefer to build some would say God’s Kingdom while others would be absolutely honest and say their own kingdom. I like honesty. I prefer people to call it what it is. I can respect a person who says they are selfish and don’t mind if you know. I don’t agree with them and think they are headed for disaster, but I can respect their honesty.

What concerns me more is those who believe and claim they are building God’s kingdom and are actually building their own. They are self-deceived. They are mistaken and misdirected. In reality, they are actually holding the Kingdom of God back more than building it.

How do you know when that is happening? How do you tell if a person is going down the wrong road and not aware that they are on it? Or how do you identify someone who would say they are building God’s kingdom and are actually constructing their own? Even more pressing, how do you know if you might be that person?

I think there are at least four clear indicators of exactly whose kingdom we are building. Before I mention them I need to clarify this point. Many people have a mistaken idea of what actually it is that builds the Kingdom of God. What we would sometimes think are Kingdom builders are actually personal interests and involvements. For examples, going to church, reading your Bible, praying, putting some money in the offering and hanging around good and godly people can all be thought of as Kingdom builders (and in some cases they are)when in most respects they are self development interests and involvements.

So, here are four indicators of just whose kingdom you are most concerned about and involved in building.

  1. Passion: what are you most passionate about? What gets you excited? What causes you to lay awake at night? What inspires your creative juices? What brings you to the point of sacrifice? What moves you to get out of bed in the morning? What brings forth plans in your head and on paper? Is it your own pursuits or is it the Kingdom of God. Are you more passionate about your kingdom or Gods?
  2. Service: what are you most likely to give up your limited time for? How much time do you devote to your pursuits verses the needs of others? What do you go out of your way to do? Who are you most willing to sacrifice for? Who are you most willing to get down and dirty for?  When you get up in the morning and think of your day, what comes to mind first and most, what you want to accomplish that day or what you can do to serve others and the Kingdom? Are you more likely to serve your own needs or to serve God by serving others?
  3. Stuff: our stuff speaks volumes about whose kingdom we are really building. Look around yourself. Look at the Kingdom of God and then answer. Are you more interested in getting more stuff or seeing that the needs of the kingdom are met? When you get your pay check what is on your mind, getting something you want or providing something the Kingdom needs? Are you getting more and more stuff while the needs of the Kingdom continue to go unmet or under met? Does your stuff declare that you are more interested in building your kingdom or God’s
  4. Money: Money buys stuff, however, money is a kingdom indicator all by itself. No one said it better than Jesus when he put it on the line, “You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24) He didn’t say, you shouldn’t or you might not serve then both, he said you cannot. It is impossible. It is absolutely impossible to serve both.  And here’s the truth, it is really simple to tell whether or not you are serving God or money. It is really easy to know who has first place when it comes to your money. Are you ready? Here it is. Are you giving to the Kingdom at least a tithe of your income? “The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God in first place in your life.” (Deuteronomy 14:23) All that is necessary is to look at one’s check register to know if you are building your kingdom or God’s.

I would suggest that these kingdom building factors are far more than an interesting discussion for a blog post or a magazine article. It is of eternal significance. There is only one thing that will last forever, the kingdom of God. It will never end.  The Psalmist wrote, “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.”  Ps 145:13,

This world and everything in it will one day be dissolved and disappear but the Kingdom of God will live on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever. It will never end. I don’t have all the answers as to when and how that will happen but it will happen. It is going to happen whether or not I understand it. It will happen whether or not I believe.

Because of the certainty of the future I would suggest that you devote your entire life to building that which will last forever, His Kingdom and not yours. That doesn’t mean we cannot enjoy what God has blessed us with. But it does mean that our passion and service and stuff and money are invested in His Kingdom always before our own kingdom.
